Maintaining Your Hardwood Floors in the Ozarks

Hardwood floors are absolutely gorgeous when kept in pristine condition, but maintaining your hardwood floors in the Ozarks is another thing entirely.  With our ever-changing weather and humidity, not only can this harm your floors, but it can damage them beyond repair if they aren’t taken care of.

Think about it – wood expands in heat and contracts when it is cold.  If your hardwood floors aren’t protected and maintained, water damage can have an irreversible effect on the life of them.  And let’s be honest, replacing them isn’t always cheap!  With that in mind, here are some tips on how you can maintain and protect your hardwoods.

How to Maintain Your Hardwood Floors in the Ozarks:
Maintaining your hardwood floors on a daily, weekly and monthly basis is different.

Daily

Sweep or dust mop your hardwood floors.

Weekly

Vacuum using the bare floor setting.

Monthly

Clean with a recommended and proven wood flooring  cleaner

Every 3 – 5 Years

Apply a maintenance coat to your hardwood floors.

Every Decade or Two

Sand and refinish your hardwood floors.

When maintaining your hardwood floors, be sure to use a dry microfiber mop, and never NEVER use vinyl or tile-cleaning chemicals on your hardwoods.  In fact, do not wet mop or steam mop a hardwood floor either as this can damage the wood.  You will also want to make sure you have felt bottoms or stick-on felt protectors on any chairs or furniture which can scratch, scuff or dim the surface of your hardwood floors.

Last but not least, winters in Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Republic, Rogersville, Branson and the Ozarks, in general, can be very damaging to your beautiful hardwood floors.  One of the things which can help is to keep a humidifier – this helps to minimize gaps in the floor boards.
